Born in Washington, DC to a Sierra Leonean mother, XZAI (pronounced Zay) is an 18-year-old certified hitmaker who had one of the hottest years in the DMV music scene in 2021, and now he is ready to continue his winning streak in 2022 with the release of his latest single “imported”. When I came across this young artist I was surprised by how quickly I found myself a fan of his music. So I had to do a bit of digging and bring you all the sauce on who he is and why you should have him in your playlist.
Xzai grew up a student & lover of music. As the child of a West African mother, he was exposed to a wide variety of it and eventually self-taught himself instruments like the piano, ukulele, and drums. This blossomed into a love of hip hop, pop, and R&B and the start of the change of his life. He released his debut single “Mud” in August of 2019 and it was received very positively by consumers reaching 50 Thousand streams all-time. His dream was becoming a reality as he started gaining love and support from not just his friends and family but the general public. He eventually turned the success of his debut song into multiple high-profile opportunities including Winning the WKYS 93.9FM VERZUZ competition giving him a spotlight and interview on one the biggest radio stations in the DMV with radio personality “Little Baconbear” & performing in Atlanta for the Label Reps and A&Rs of super label Quality Control Music. This attention and buzz has helped him crush it on the streaming platforms as he has reached over 100k all-time streams and thousands upon thousands of new fans. This smooth-talking prodigy is just getting started and if the last two years were any indication 2022 is about his year.
